Patriots Draft Preview

The Pats have 4 picks in the first 58 selctions, including 3 in the 2nd round. I'm hoping they can fill some holes and strengthen some areas for next season. I think the biggest need going into the draft is LB. They traded Vrabel and Bruschi is getting older, so I think they need to get younger and more talented at that postion. I also think the Pats need to add a versatile edge pass rusher who can play DE and OLB. A WR who is big and can play oppisite Moss would help too. Here's what I've come up with.

Rey Maualuga/LB/USC

Maualuga probably wont fall to the Pats at the #23 pick, but if he does they need to draft him. They could build a a LB unit around Mayo and Maualuga. The Pats also drafted Shawn Crable an OLB out of Michigan last year, who could add skill and youth to the Pats LB unit. They need to get younger at LB and Maualuga would be a perfect pick for them.

Aaron Maybin/DE/Penn State

Maybin is a very versatile DE/OLB who would fit perfectly on the Pats 3-4 defense. He's a edge pass rusher, I think the Pats need to add in the draft. At 6-4/248, he can play DE and OLB. I think he's got a bright future ahead of him in the NFL and would be a great pick for the Pats.

Brian Cushing/LB/USC

Cushing is another USC product at LB. I don't rank him as highly as Maualuga, but he's extremely talented and could be drafted higher then Maualuga. He has good size to play either ILB or OLB. He's 6-3/243. He also ran a 4.77, 40 at the USC Pro day, which isn't blazing speed, but not a bad 40 time. I think he would be a good pick for the Pats.

Kenny Britt/WR/Rutgers

I think Britt would be the perfect WR opposite of Moss. He's 6-3/218 and ran a 4.56, 40 at the combine and a 4.40, 40 at his Pro Day. I have a feeling, he's going to be a big time WR in the NFL and the Pats need to get more talented and younger at WR. Drafting Britt makes a lot of sense for the Pats.

Jerod Mayo AP Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jerod Mayo was named the Associated Press 2008 Defense Rookie of the Year after an amazing Rookie season for the Pats. Mayo had his haters coming into the season, most thought he was drafted too high when the Pats took him with the #10 pick in Aprils Draft.  I think it's pretty safe to say he was a great draft pick for the Pats and wasn't picked to highly. Mayo had a great year and really seemed to step up for the Pats as a leader on there defense this year. A lot of the Pats starters when onto the IR, like Thomas and Harrison, so we needed a leader or someone to step up there game and Mayo did that. The Stats were also were nice. Mayo ended the season with 128 tackles for the Pats to go along with 4 pass deflections, a forced fumble and a fumbled recover. Now, the tackles is the big key. He was all over the field this year dragging down the ball carrier for the Pats. His best game of the season was vs the New York Jets on November 13th when he had 20 tackles. 16 of them were solo tackles to go along with 4 assists. Mayo had exactly 100 solo tackles on the season, so a sure tackler for the Pats defense. He had 28 assists. Mayo's 128 total tackles was 10th in the NFL. This is a very nice award for Mayo himself and the entire Patriot Nation!

Patriots vs Cardinals Review

I'm going to start off by saying, what a game! The Pats played great. There's no question in my mind they deserve to be in the playoffs, we just need help from the Jets, Dolphins, and Ravens to get in. There playing the best out of those 3 teams and deserve a playoff berth, but some early season losses have hurt us. Let's break down the big win.

The Pats had a great game today, dominating the Cardinals on all three phases of the game. They couldn't do anything today vs our Pats, who improved there record to 10-5, but still 3rd in the AFC East. The Jets are currently losing 7-3 to the Seahawks, so let's hope they can hold on and beat them. Anyways, the Pats gained 514 total yards today, to the Cardinals 186, about half of them coming on a 78 yard TD pass to Larry Fitzgerald in the 4th Qtr. Matt Cassel lead the Pats with 345 yards threw the air and 3 TD's. Sammy Morris lead the Pats in rushing with 88 yards on the ground. Lamont Jordon also chipped in scoring twice on the ground. Randy Moss, had a somewhat quite day expect for a 76 yard TD pass on a screen play. The Pats played good football today. Let's hope they can contiune this into next week.

Go Pats!!

Patriots vs Cardinals Preview

Well guys, I posted a preview earlier this week but because tomorrow is game day I figured I post a better and more updated preview. The Patriots are 9-5 and will most likely need a win here to stay in the playoff berth. We need the Ravens to lose tonight, so the Pats will have control of there own Destiny in the last two games of the season. If the Ravens lose and the Patriots win there last two games, the Pats will get a wild card and the #6 seed. If the Jets and Dolphins lose tomorrow and the Pats win the last two games, they will win the AFC East and be the #4 seed in the playoffs and host a playoff game in the Wild card round. If there the # 6 seed they will have to go on the road in the wild card round. Anyways, the Pats have the Cardinals tomorrow at home, so I think the Pats have the advantage. The Cardinals have already locked up the NFC West, so there not playing for much but seeding. The Pats on the other hand are fighting for the playoff lives, so that favors them. I can't wait for this game. Let's break it down.

3rd in the AFC East

The Patriots will look for there 10th win of the season tomorrow vs the Cardinals. They need this win badly, to keep the playoff hope alive and I believe they will win. I'm hoping Cassel has a strong afternoon and the running game get's going. If Cassel plays like he did last week, the Pats should have no trouble winning, if he struggles you never know. Hopefully Sammy Morris has a good day running the ball and takes some of the pressure off of Matt Cassel and the Patriots passing game. Let's hope Matt Light plays in this one, he is listed as Questionable with an shoulder injury. He's a big part of our offense and we could use him tomorrow.

1st in the NFC West

The Cardinals have been one of the surprises of the NFL this year. They have already punched there ticket for the playoffs for the first time sinice 1998. They will give the Patriots a good challenge and could possibly take this game from the Pats. I don't see them winning, but they could. They have been lead this year, but MVP Canidate Kurt Warner. He's had an amazing season with 4290 yards and 26 TD's. He may lead the Cardinals into New England and take a game from the Patriots. If the Cardinals win this game it will be because Kurt Warner lead his team up and down the field and the defense played well.

Key Match Up
The QB's

Matt Cassel will need to play big if the Patriots want to win this. He's has some big performances this year when he had back to back 400 yard games. Now I'm not saying he will need to throw for 400 yards for the Patriots to win, but somwhere between 250-300 yards and 2 scores may be.
Kurt Warner has had a great season as I said earlier. He too will need to have a great game to give the Cardinals any chance of winning. The Cardinals leading rusher right now is Edgerrin James and he only has 395 yards and 3 TD's. The Passing game has been Cardinals offense this year and Warner will need a big game to win. I'd say in the range of 350 yards and 3 TD's.

Well as a Patriots fan, I'd say they have a great chance of winning, but as I looked down the rest of the Pats schedule this game looked to be the toughest and probably will be. I don't think the Pats will have any trouble taking care of the Bills next week, so if the Pats win tomorrow in this game, there playoff chances are looking pretty good. They will need help to get in, but I think the Cowboys will beat the Ravens tonight giving the Pats the #6 seed if the can win there last 2 games. All in all, I see this a tough fought game and a Pats win 31-17.

AFC Playoff Picture

Now with only 2 weeks left in the regular season, I thought I'd break down the AFC playoff picture. There are still 9 teams alive and only 6 spots, so in the next 2 weeks 3 teams will be going home unhappy. There are only 3 teams that have locked up a playoff berth, so the bottom 6 teams will fight for the last 3 spots. No one has locked up home field advantage, so there's a lot to play for in the last 2 weeks for all 9 teams fighting for a playoff spot or seed. Now let's break down the all 9 teams and there situations.

1. Tennessee Titans

Patriots vs Cardinals Preview

I know this is coming a little early, but this is a huge game for the Patriots. They need to win to keep there playoff hopes alive. They of course don't control there own destiny, they will need help to make the playoffs. A Ravens loss Saturday night vs the Cowboys, would be a big help to getting the wild card if they can't win there division. Now the Ravens losing to the Cowboys could very well happen, so will have to stay tuned for Saturday night. Anyways, the Pats gotta take care of the Cardinals on Sunday to even have a chance, so that's whats important here. This should be a fun game, so let's get started.

It's still a little to far in the future to know what the weather is, but let's hope we have a decent day in Foxborough.

Gillette Stadium, Foxborugh, Mass.

I think the Pats will take care of them, plain and simple. They NEED this game, the Cardinals already have there ticket punched in the weak NFC West, so there really not playing for much more then playoff seeding, which is important but not as important as fighting for your playoff live, like the Pats are. The Cardinals are also coming across country to play this game and teams havn't had much success coming from the West Coast to play on the East Coast at 1:00 PM, so I'm going to say the Pats win 24-10.

Patriots vs Raiders

Well Patriot fans, we have a big tomorrow vs the Raiders. We sit at 8-5 and tied at the top of the AFC East, so we need to win this game. It should be interesting contest vs the 3-10 Raiders. Now we might have taken the 2-11 Seahawks a little lightly last Sunday, so we can't do that again. I didn't think that they had a good chance to beat us and we were a good drive from Matt Cassel and the Patriots offense away from losing and basically taking ourselves out of the playoff picture. The Raiders are playing at home, so that plays to a big advantage to Oakland. If this game was being playing in New England, I'd pick the Pats, but because it's being played in Oakland, I'm not too sure. The game is being played at 4:15 ET.

McAfee Stadium
Oakland, California

Weather Report

Light Rain
51 Degress
12 MPH Win

I'm going to go with the Patriots in this one. This should be a hard fought game, played in front of the Oakland Fans. Now, Cassel is expected to play and did practice with the team this week, but that should play a big factor in this game in a good or bad way. We all remember Favres Monday Night game vs the Raiders after his father died, so maybe Cassel will play the game of his live, in his fathers honor. If he wasn't able to go, Kevin O'Connell the 3rd round pick out of San Diego State would start in his place. Now though O'Connell has a lot of talent, I'm not sure I want him starting for the Pats tomorrow, not sure anyone would wanna see that. Anyways, I'm stikk picking the Patriots to win, 27-17.
