Celtics Week 8 Review

The Celtics had another very successful week. They had four games and won all 4 of them. When you win every game in the week you can't complain as a fan. The Celtics extended there winning streak from 14 games to 18 games this week and picked up wins 23-26. PG Rajon Rondo set his career high mark in points, twice. On Monday he scored 25 points vs the Jazz which was a career high at the moment and then on Sunday vs the Knicks he pasted his currently career high when he scored 26 points. A very good week for the Rondo and the Celtics.

Boston Celtics vs Utah Jazz

The first game of the week was Monday night when the Celtics took on the Utah Jazz in Boston. The Celtics look to extend there winning streak to 15 games in this one and did just that. The Celtics jumped on the Jazz early having a 12 point, 28-16 lead after the end of the 1st Qtr. The Jazz fought back in the 2nd Qtr and the game was tied going into the the locker room at half time. The Celtics were too much for the Jazz though, winning 100-91. Rajon Rondo lead the Celtics with 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Kevein Garnett had a double double with 19 points and 10 boards. Perkins also had a double double for Boston with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Paul Millsap had a career high 32 points to go along with his 10 rebounds.

Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawks

On Wednesday the Celtics travled to Atlanta to play the Hawks. This was in my mind the game of the week. A very hard fought defensive affort by both clubs. Also a very entertaining game. Neither team was able to shoot well, both teams under 45% from the floor. Neither team looked fluent on offense. The Celtics shot 44% from the field to the Hawks 36%. The Celtics shot well from the FT line at 81% but terrible from beyond the arc, as they shot 2-13. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett lead the Celtics in scoring with 18 a piece.  Ray Allen chipped in with 16 points, along with Rondos 15 and Perkins 8. The Hawks were lead by Joe Johnson who had 20 points, 16 of them coming in the 2nd half. Marvin Williams scored 16 for the Hawks and Bibby and Smith chipped in with 14 a piece. Al Horford scored 8 points and tore down 11 boards to round out the Hawks starting 5. The leading scorer coming off either bench was Ronald Murray who scored 6, so neither bench had an impact in this game. The game was won in the final 30 seconds of the game when Perkins had a huge block to hold the Celtics lead, so the game could be won on the line.
Celtics win 88-85

Boston Celtics vs Chicago Bulls

On Friday night the Celtics were back home to take on the Bulls. The Celtics had there best offensive night of the season, putting up 126 points on the Bulls. This was the best offensive performance of the week, points wise for the Celtics. The stats also didn't look to shappy for Boston. The Celtics played well in this one. As I said they put 126 points on the board in there 126-108 beating of the Chicago Bulls. The Celtics offense had a decent night. They shot 59% from the floor, making 50 of 84 FG's and pretty good from the line at 82%. The Celtics shot expectionally well from deep, as the made 12-24, 3 pointers. Now the Bulls scored the ball too, putting up 108 points. They shot 50% from the floor and 78% from the line. They also shot 50% for beyond the arc, as they made 11-22, 3's. The Bulls turned the ball over more though, 21 turn overs will kill you if your playing a team as good as the Celtics. Boston only turned the ball over 14 times. I know Doc wants to cut that down, but 14 wont kill you if you play good defense and shoot the ball well. Ray Allen had a nice nice for Boston scoring 27 points to go along with 5 assists. Kendrick Perkins also had a great nice, scoring 25 points and pulling down 8 boards. Garnett has 16 points, Pierce dropped in 16 and Rondo only scored 4, but had 15 assists and was creating offense for his teammates. Tony Allen came off the bench to score in double figures, as he scored 10 points. The Bulls were lead by Luol Deng, who scored 19 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon were the other to Bulls starters to score in double figures. Rose scored 14 points to go along with 5 assists and Ben Gordon dropped in 10 points. Andres Nocioni scored 16 points and ripped down 6 rebounds off the Bulls bench and Joakim Noah also came off the bench to be the only double figures scorer, he scored 10 points.

Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks

The last game of the week came Sunday vs the New York Knicks in Boston. The Celtics extended there winning streak to 18 games with this win and picked up there NBA leading 26th win. The 18th win in a row ties a franchise record. A very successful night for the Boston Celtics and all Celtics fans. The Celtics ended the week at 4-0 with this win. The Celtics played the best offensive game of the week. This was a nice win for the Celtics. They had a great offensive night, putting up 124 points. I think it's the best offensive night of the week even though they put up a 126 on the Bulls, the Celtics shot better and seemed to have more offensive rythm. The Celtics shot 65% from the field in this one making 50 of the 76 shots the celtics put up tonight. The Celtics shot 50% from beyond the Arc again, but in this one making 10-20, 3 pointers. The only place the Celtics offensive struggled was from the FT line, only hitting 14-24 FT's for a 58% average. That didn't slow down the Celtics offensive numbers too much though, mostly because they shot so well from the floor and 3 point land. The Knicks put up 105 points, but didn't have the greatest shooting night. They shot 43% from the field and 76% from the FT line. They also shot good from deep, making 13-39 shots for a 39% average. The also took care of the ball, only turning it over 12 times to the Celtics 23 times. The Knicks were lead by Quention Richardson who scored 29 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Nate Robinson also had a good night. He came off the bench and scored 23 points. The Knicks had 3 other scorers in double figures, Chris Duhon with 20, David Lee with 17, and Al Harrington with 10. The Celtics were lead by Rajon Rondo who has a career high 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Ray Allen also had a decent night shooting the ball as he dropping in 17, Pierce scored 17 points and Garnett and Perkins put in 12 a piece. Tony Allen and Leon Powe came off the Celtics bench to score in double figures. Allen scoring 11 and Powe scoring 10.

Celtics vs Hawks Review

I'm going to start off by saying what a game! Both teams played hard until the final buzzer. Both defenses showed up in this one, both teams shooting under 40% from the field. It was a very entertaining game to watch. The game came down to a huge block in the final 20 seconds by Perkins when they lead 85-84 to hold the lead and preserve the win by hitting free throws. Neither team had a good night offensively, the 88-85 win by the Celtics made the score lot higher then it was. After the 3 Qtr the score was 62-59. Defense won this game for the Celtics and kept the Hawks in the game all night as they had a bad night from the field. Here are some of the stats.

Here are some of the stats from tonight's game.

Scoring Leaders: Pierce and Garnett both with 18
Rebounding Leader: Perkins with 10
Assists Leader: Rondo with 7
Steals Leader: Rondo with 4
Blocks Leader: Perkins with 4

Scoring Leader: Joe Johnson with 20
Rebounding Leader: Al Horford with 11
Assists Leader: Smith, Horford, and Johnson with 4
Steals Leaders: Johnson with 3
Blocks Leader: Williams and Horford with 2

Game Breakdown

Both team played there hearts out. The Celtics shot 44% from the field and the Hawks shot 37% from the field, both defenses showed up and played well. The offenses weren't fluent and the shooting percentages make that pretty clear. It was good to see Paul Pierce play well and get a lot of minutes. His knee looked fine. Piece dropped in 18 points to go along with 7 boards in 40 minutes on the floor. Joe Johnson lead the Hawks with 20 points, scoring 16 of them in the second half. All 5 of the Hawks starters played more then 38 minutes in this one, only going 3 deep on the bench. Kevin Garnett played well for the Celtics, scoring 18 points and snatching 8 rebounds in his 37 minutes of action on the court. All in all, the Celtics got it done tonight in there 88-85 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Go Celtics!

Celtics vs Hawks Preview

The Celtics are on a roll, now winners of 15 straight contests. The Celtics have a test tomorrow night in Atlanta when they will be taking on the Hawks. The Hawks almost beat the Celtics earlier this year in Boston, it took a miracle shot with 0.5 left to go by Paul Pierce to beat them. This game should be just as entertaining.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics are 23-2 on the season and are on tops of the NBA. They will look to extend there streak to 16 games in this one. Here's my projected starting line up.

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Paul Pierce
SG: Ray Allen
PG: Rajon Rondo

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks are 15-9 and look like there in for a solid season and another playoff berth. It's still early, but they have impressed me. There coming off a 83-79 win vs Charlotte. Here's my projected starting line up.

C: Al Horford
PF: Zaza Pachulia
SF: Josh Smith
SG: Joe Johnson
PG: Mike Bibby

This is gonna be a true test for the Celtics. The Hawks seem to always play them tight and are playing on there home floor, a place the Celtics went 0-3 in the playoffs last year. Expect the fans to into this game and to have a packed house. Paul Pierce could miss this game after have Okur rolling over his knee with 31 seconds left in the Celtics win over the Jazz Monday night. I'm pretty sure he will play, but if he doesn't, the Celtics might be in trouble. I think the Celtics win, 95-88.
